Newsletter Osirisnet janvier 2016 - January 2016
The Minister of Antiquities changes its policy : new exhibitions will be held periodically to show new finds of foreign archeological missions. Thus, the public will not have to wait for years before to see them. The first exhibition of 2015 field campaign by a Spanish team at the mortuary temple of Thutmosis III was held in the Luxor Museum. The next two will be Alexandria in February (Polish mission) and Momification Museum at Luxor (Italian mission).
Osirisnet warmly supports this change of policy.

New Review of Hidden Luxor - I strongly recommend this superb book

Amazon.co.uk:Customer Reviews: Hidden Luxor: If you want to know far more about the 'hidden' gems in Luxor, I strongly recommend this superb book. I've been to Luxor 6 times and am currently living there but even if you 'think' you know a lot, you will find in this book a host of knowledge that only years of expertise and 'hands-on' exploring in the area can uncover. It is from Jane's book that I first discovered - amongst many other things - the beautiful Botanical Room of Tuthmosis III at Karnak. The book is small enough to fit in a rucksack and take with you on explorations but it is HUGE on info!

The statues were found inside two cenotaphs (empty tombs erected in honor of a person or group of people whose remains are elsewhere) at the Gebel el Silsila site, where a total of 32 cenotaphs have been found along the Nile.

Two different Egypt’s – Crochet amid the temples #ThisisEgypt

Sometimes I find the way Egypt is reported truly puzzling. The media is full
of dramatic stories of death and destruction and at the same time I am shopping
for crochet wool. I have recently learnt to crochet at the ripe old age of 60
from a friend and videos on YouTube. Having used up all my remnants from
knitting and tapestry I was delighted to find an excellent haberdashers in
Luxor where I could lots of gorgeous wool and cotton. It is located in Station
St about a third of the way up from Luxor temple.

Albair 01224297954 is a charming gentleman with some really weird open hours. I have found it best to phone before I go but he says he opens at 5pm. Today I went and found the shop
front closed and shuttered. Phoned him and he was in the shop!!! I spent about
an hour there browsing his stock, I was like a kid in a sweet shop, and spent
far too much. I now have loads of wool to keep me occupied. Luxor around this
time is bustling and busy, the streets were full of families. There was an
increased police presence at the checkpoints

In the meantime the media is full of awful stories of a completely different
Egypt. French tourism has not been affected by terrorist attacks in Paris and I
would recommend to anyone not to let Egyptian tourism be affected either. Don’t
stop your holiday to anywhere because of terrorists, nowhere is completely safe
and we should not let the terrorist win. As the British embassy website travel says

Egypt travel advice - GOV.UK: We are aware of an incident that took place at the Bella Vista Hotel on Sheraton Road in Hurghada, Egypt on 8 January in which a small number of foreign tourists were injured. British Nationals are advised to stay alert and follow the advice of the local authorities.

Over 900,000 British nationals visit Egypt every year. Most visits are trouble-free.

Egyptian Chronicles: The so-many versions of What happened in Hurghada's Belle Vista Hotel Friday evening

Well worth reading to understand media distortion. Egyptian Chronicles: The so-many versions of What happened in Hurghada's Belle Vista Hotel Friday evening:

Now whether it is a terrorist attack or a robbery or just a fight that gone mad and sadly, there is one fact : It is another blow to tourism industry in Egypt.
